Merry Christmas! Black Wave/Bad Vibrations

Merry Christmas everyone! I had a very nice time thank you, Germans are very hospitable people, and it's quite nice to eat goose instead of turkey. And the mulled wine! But I have some nice news for you, courtesy of my favourite fansite.
It seems Arcade Fire's fine new single 'Intervention' is available now on iTunes. If you go there and buy it (and you should because proceeds go to a very fine charity, Partners in Health) you'll find yourself listening to a song that is not 'Intervention'. I don't know how what it's called or how this happened - but it seems like the Arcade Fire are the most unpredictable band around. It's a pretty fantastic way to raise money for charity, no? Either that, or someone made an enormous mistake.
So, go, purchase and download. And, if you want something free, have these:

In The Backseat (acoustic)
Burning Bridges, Breaking Hearts (live, unreleased)

What does it sound like? It might be what they meant when they said Neon Bible would sound like "standing by the ocean at night'. The first half is a lighthouse, and the second half is all panic. It features vocals from Regine and then Win, it rocks a bit (like a lifeboat), and there is french. While it's great, it's not as good as 'Intervention', and it reminds me very much of their EP material.
There is an element in Regine's half of some synthiness, and in the second half, when Win takes over, it's a little bit Springsteen. It's a different feeling to 'Intervention', this is the fear and doubt after the absolute evangelization. It's also a little bit like 'Burning Bridges, Breaking Hearts' a new song that has only ever been played live. Altogether, it's simply excellent, a swell, a wave of rattling beauty.
Anyway - go buy it! It's only on the U.S. version of iTunes, it would seem.

nothing lasts forever that's the way it's gotta be, there's a great black wave in the middle of the sea...

{Update}
Win has posted a reaction on the band's site. The song was uploaded by Merge accidentally, and released 2 days too early. It's called 'Black Wave/Bad Vibrations' and is the next song on the album after 'Intervention'. Also, he figures the album leaking is as "inevitable as the Christmas cold I feel coming." Oh, Win! Neon Bible will have eleven tracks.
It seems there will be a PayPal link on the official site soon so people can donate to Partners In Health, even if they didn't buy the song on iTunes, which is nice. I'm quietly thrilled I got to hear another song, but it is a pity it happened to a song which was going to benefit charity. Oh well, that's the internet for you, the medium without a master.
If the official site makes your browser crash, as with mine, read it here.

wow, this sucks. Not the song, because I can't hear the song. But the fact that I can't use iTunes.

I was tempted to post a stream of it, but it didn't seem to right. I'm sure someone else will soon, and they won't get sued. But as long as it's available to buy, and for the charity connection, I won't post it.

That said, I didn't get it on iTunes either, being in Germany, but I will be using the mentioned PayPal account. Christmas is the season for covering yourself ethically.

I understand why you wont post it, and I respect that decision entirely. Needless to say, I found the song, and I have to say I like it just as much if not more than "Intervention". Especially when "Bad Vibrations" starts.

iTunes will let me preview it and add it to my cart, but it removes it before I can purchase it...

Bummer, was going to buy it, but I guess I will get it some other way.

Am I the only person who thinks that the "Black Wave" part of the song sounds exactly like Blonde Redhead while the "Bad Vibrations" portion has a very similar arrangement to Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark"? Win Butler's voice even sounds a lot like the Boss's. When all is said and done, it's not a bad song, but the two parts have very little to do with each other, and I tend to feel that people are making too big a deal about this tune. I hope their forthcoming album has a few songs more interesting than this one.

If you translated some of the french in the first part of the song, the parts make up a whole, and the first part has a lot to do with the second.
