fight like apes

Fight Like Apes - Lend Me Your Face

Somehow, this song makes violence sound like something not to be afraid of. It seems to be a means of expression just like music - just as vital and worthy as music, or love or whatever it may be. This song is music, and it is violence, and it is great as both of them, with careening vocals like Karen O stealing James Browns' strut, and yet approachably human. Maybe this song's got split personalities. Those distorted, flowing keyboards, they sound both beautiful and continous as an evening skyline, but as beaten and rough as a bloodied face.
Strangely, this song also reminds me very much of most of my experiences in Dublin, with tension and anger beneath the beauty and the style. What's been happening to Irish music lately? I seem to want to listen to more and more of it.

Fight Like Apes will be releasing their debut EP How Am I Supposed To Kill You If You Have All The Guns? on May 18th on Fifa Records. See here for details of their Irish tour, supporting folk like the Apples in Stereo, Frank and Walters and Neosupervital.

{Edit}
This isn't remotely related, but I had to point out one of these homegrown festival t-shirts. They're pretty impressive-looking, must be part of that "good things happening in irish music" thing going on.
