the luyas and the great song they made

The Luyas - Dumb Blood
This song beats along like a heart: slowly, dependably, murmuringly for two minutes straight, and then it gets broken, music comes flooding and streaming out like blood, but happily, a release, and the vocals and horn mix in the mess like multicolour, and though it would be a nice song with just the little homely vocals and guitar, it needs all the drums and mess and marching band to be a great song, which it is.
The Luyas are one of those bands, and there are some maybe-reasons why; they are bits of other great bands, Torngatters and Belle Orchestral, and the horn player heard here is the same that makes this song what it is. But none of that matters at all, the first time I heard this song I tried to fall asleep so it would come with me. It's just beautiful.

Also, should you be interested, Owen Pallett has finally recorded 'Hey Dad', and lovely it is too. Listen to it here.

A wonderful post, as usual.
The Luyas were rumoured to be the openers for FF when he came to Kingston in the spring, which made me very excited, but it never came to fruition. I really hope to see them live - I love Torngat and Bell Orchestre (and what I know of SS Cardiacs) and from the few songs I've heard on their myspace I think the Luyas may be greater than the sum of its parts.
And thank you for pointing me to the Final Fantasy song.
thanks. i think they really are a band to get excited about.
