for you

Mixylodian - River of Milk

This song has sailing guitars, and a punching rhythm, and worrying little keyboard lines, and it asks you to dance. It uses a line - "She's wearing those boots tonight" - and it is about this, and about other things too, house parties, dressing up, bad lighting, waking up in the garden, and the way the best and most significant things that happen between you and other people always - always - happen in the early hours of the morning. It's as if you have to get this done and said while the dawn is still beyond the horizon, while you are both wild with night, and sleepswept, while it is so quiet you can hear both your hearts thump-thump-thump.

This is one of my favourite songs that I have come across this weird year, and it comes from Montreal's Mixylodian - it can be heard on their very fine K EP, and you can buy it here.

1:41 to 2:10 is utter perfection. In 30 seconds it sums up an entire summer of humid nights, awkward glances, jealousy and one to many gin&tonics. Fantastic.
