it will not get me far

Mess - No Clue

Jessie Stein sometimes seems to have a voice as curly as her hair, that makes lyrics seem honest and good and simple and true, and on songs like this, that voice matter-of-factly states how we are sometimes, us people, us people in love. And though it is very easy and straightforward, there is something undeniable in it.

I didn't have a clue, didn't have a clue, did you?

But elsewhere, she mouths some of my favourite lyrics ever into song, taking an idea I am forever wrapping words around - that when it comes to love and loss, it is worth it - and putting it beautifully.

The Luyas - Dumb Blood

I know I can exist
without the feeling of you in my chest
I ramble on
I know I'm fine
I know you're gone
You were never mine...
Okay, that's fine, but know these things have their design.

I am listening to these songs now, because it is good to be reminded of this.
Mess is a sort of demo-project of Jessie's that is "all about bedroom songs that take an hour." It's better than that sounds, though.
